karnoff Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 Hello, I'm about to buy this waki, but the seller thinks its possible that the mumeï is a fake, whereas the blade is of very good quality but not polished yet. What do you think? All the best Quote
karnoff Posted April 7 Author Report Posted April 7 Please help me because its my second nihonto.. I dont want to get a shitty one. Maybe its a good mumei, maybe it was a command from a daïmo to offer it to a samurai with prestigious mumeï to make him think its valuable at affordable price without saying nothing (Japanese culture) So let me know please. And maybe i'll pay for a polish after All the best Quote
Brian Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 Buy the sword, not the signature. No..it's wasn't some Daimyo gift. It's an average wakizashi. Good chance of gimei, but again...buy the sword not the signature. Looks in ok condition but you have to budget for a tsuba. In other words, if it's like $400 or so...feel free to buy it, not much to lose. If it's $1000....pass. You need to decide what it's worth to you, but you are buying an entry level wakizashi with an untested mei. Hamon looks not terrible. Check for flaws etc. needs work. Quote
2devnul Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 It is Gimei, not Mumei (Mumei = no signature). And yes, seller is right, looks like poorly made Gimei (engraved Mei). Like Brian wrote, if it is up to 500$, you can buy it as entry/learning sword. All depends on what you are looking for. I personally wouldn't buy it, even for 400$. karnoff Posted April 7 Author Report Posted April 7 Ok, thank you very much for your answer, as he was asking 1300 euros for it. I'll go see someone else! Quote
karnoff Posted April 7 Author Report Posted April 7 But with a decent tsuba.. But as you guys said.... Not worth the price Quote

Check 'for sale' section. If you have that budget, then maybe add 500/1000EURO more and you will afford even better (and in Koshirae) swords. 1 1 Quote
