Frank Posted April 5 Report Posted April 5 Hey folks, bought a shirasaya Kaneyoshi wakizashi from Japan and has a seki stamp? Is this common on wakizashis and i thought seki stamped blades were forbidden in Japan? Nagasa is 54cm. Anyways it's a nice piece and keen to know thoughts. Thanks. Quote
Volker62 Posted April 5 Report Posted April 5 Hello Frank Thank you for sharing, can we see the whole blade? Quote
Frank Posted April 5 Author Report Posted April 5 I'll try to get a clear picture of the hamon. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted April 5 Report Posted April 5 Hi Frank! What is the cutting length of the blade? I have 4 other waki on file with the large Seki stamp, all different smiths. It is rare, but not unheard of. In case you don't know, yours is Kaneyoshi, Okada Takeshi 兼義 We have seen a number of war blades come out of Japan lately, even some NCO Type 95s! There are a couple of exceptions one can qualify for. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 54cm - 21.25 in. - you are right, it's a waki. You might ask about the saya labels over on the General Nihonto thread, or the Translation thread. Quote
