blades87 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Looks like our eBay seller who has been trying to move 27 Japanese swords has given up on people bidding on them and set a price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ANTIQUE-Japanese-SW ... 2a04b94f97 $27,999 with a local pick-up only in North Carolina. I think he may have a bit more luck selling them individually and given the state of some of the swords, I think he might be hard pressed to average $1000 per sword. Toby Quote
sanjuro Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Frankly it beats me as to why he has limited himself to local pickup only. I realise he's from North Carolina and possibly does not know there is actually a world beyond Lafayette county and indeed beyond the shores of North America if he can make such a distinction. Why has he limited his market so drastically? We that inhabit the greater percentage of the planet can only look on and wonder.......... Quote
Jean Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 $ 27,999... ERic, it is because he knew I won't pay 28k$ for the lot Quote
ottou812 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 $ 27,999... ERic, it is because he knew I won't pay 28k$ for the lot Jean, it's not that much converted to euros. I guess that seller really don't want to deal with shipping. I have to help a friend sell an antique murphy bed and he doesn't want to deal with shipping that either. Quote
Mark Green Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 This guys shop is just outside Ft Bragg. NC. He has been dealing guns, and blades for some time. I have some friends in Fayettville, that tell me that these are on consignment, and from some old vet/s estate. They don't want to spend months selling these, although, I feel they would do a whole lot better if they did. I sure don't get the local pickup thing. perhaps they have had some bad times shipping things. Keith, NC is not Mayberry anymore. It is the tec capitol of the east coast. Ft Bragg is the largest army base in the US. Things are very modern there. I am only 1.5 hrs away from this store, and have thought about going to have a look, but I don't have 27000k, so I didn't want to tempt myself. Some, look very promising if the mei are good. I will pick them up for you, and make room in my safe until they can be shipped, if a board member wants to work something out. It would be fun to see them all. Quote
Stephen Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 ive know Ed for years, hes a good guy and like Mark said he dont want to hassle with mailing that many swords. Me i have the time but not close enough or with the bucks. Quote
doug e lewis Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 that sure is a bog pile of steel! would think there would be 1 or 2 "real" swords among them. Or maybe just all gunto? some look a little rough around the edges, also. if i still lived in Philadelphia i would go check them out [actually, no --i'd be snowed in]. but could only afford one (the best one of the bunch, of course) even with no shipping how can he expect to sell them all bundled together as one? it may be a hassel going thru them to find the good ones, but might be worth it if that good one is coveted Muramasa guess i'll save my $$ doug e Quote
sanjuro Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Even given the descriptions he has included in his listing, individual photos would really help him sell them. As a bunch they look like a group of gunto swords and there are surely one or two quite desirable swords among them. The good ones if there are any, are just lost among the rest. Not knowing the market in the US, is there a real possibility that someone will come along and just lay down $28k in the hope of getting one or two good swords? Mark. My references in the previous post were tongue-in-cheek. Didn't mean t'upset y'all. :D Quote
