Tsuba box - assistance kindly requested

Recommended Posts

Mariusz,

It seems to say (I may be way off),

(right column) "Kusa ni Reki? Zu? Tan To" ...Remembering/recalling? the Grass tanto

(left Column) "Hei An Jo"...Heianjo (Kyoto)

I'm no tsuba collector, but the inscription does not seem to relate to the tsuba in your link?

Regards,

George.

Gearge,

first of all, many thanks :-) Always impressive how quick NMB members are to help a poor ignoramus. I got the tsuba in this box, maybe it it just a random box the seller had?

Anyhow, thanks again :thanks:

Mariusz,

I would go further and say that the kanji was written by a gaijin, someone not at all familiar with writing characters...

BaZZa.

It might not be the case. Actually, my writing is much poorer. :phew:

BTW, the writings on the box are;

草に雁図 (Kusa ni Kari/Gan no zu) – picture of grass and geeth

短刀 – Tanto ( -> used for a tanto?)

平安城 – Heianjo ( -> attribution?)
