Our friend Jeremiah Lilly has passed. Jeremiah Lilly Obituary - Chelmsford, MA | Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home & Cremation Service

He almost always sent us chocolates each Christmas.

He'd been fighting cancer, but [last month] he convinced me that recent prognosis was looking much better.

JL had just bought one of his favored masame tanto about 5 weeks ago, which would imply to me that he wasn't just putting on a good face.

We agreed to disagree about various books and works of science fiction.

Angry and sad at the moment, I will miss him.

That is very sad to hear.

He was allways looking for the best quality in collecting Tosogu and Swords and shows us very fine pieces for our pleasure.

I hope eternity has the same quality.

I read the news on  facebook yesterday and was deeply moved. I met him on NMB a few years ago as he was the first one willing to  buy one of my Gokaden sword. It was the Yamato one. It had two sayagaki, one by Honma Junji the other one by Tanobe Michihiro both kanteiing it to Hosho school. I had it passed NBTHK shinsa and it came back as Tegai. It was surprising taking into account it was pure masame. When he got it, Jeremiah has it sent back to Japan for TH shinsa. With Mike Y. Help, it came back as TH Hosho!!!!

We discussed blades at length and his cancer. Till the end , he was sure he would win his war against cancer. He was a great guy,

RIP my friend😢

Yes. I wanted that Tegai/Hosho when it was available, but it wasn't an feasible when you were listing it.

I was glad Jeremiah got it. We discussed it every now and then, and I always thought it would go to Hosho if repapered.

Heaven knows I do that with tsuba now and then, when I see something that is better than whatever the NBTHK labeled it at one point.

Last I knew, that sword was still with Mike. Y..

Still processing J.'s death.

This is a photo of J.' during his youth as a boxer.

Very sad to hear! I only knew him from his posts here. I share his obsession with masame hada. His post of the Norikatsu tanto made me start paying attention to the Mito smiths.

It is a loss for the community.

This is a very very sad news I used to call him bullfrog here, whenever I found something with a rabbit on it I would send him  the link.

so involved and my own health problems I was wondering why he hadn't responded on the last rabbit I had sent him.

I really feel bad that I hadn't been on top of this, rest in peace bullfrog I'll miss your friendship and your Christmas cheer

Dear Stephen.

Forgive me is this is presumptuous but I am sure that he would want you to remember the exchanges about tosogu and to cheer you on, I very much doubt that he would have wanted you to feel guilty but rather  to remember the friendship shared over the years.

All the best.

Hi Stephen,

Let it go. He'd want you to let it go.

As recently as 5 weeks ago, JL was feeling good and upbeat. He'd just bought a masame tanto that he didn't live to actually see.

His passing takes some of the wind out of my own sails, as I've lost a parent and JL to cancer in the past 6 months.

JL had hard odds stacked against him. He had his moments of doubt, but 5 weeks ago he was standing brave in a fight he knew that he probably couldn't win.

He worked in biochemistry and knew the odds. May I face death half as honorably as he did.

Not that the world cares, but he faced it head on.

I will miss him. I will remember his death when I face my own.

So sorry for your loss moms are the hard one.

He had ask how I was doing said I lost my son and my sister within the same amount of time,  and he didn't get back I should have realized he didn't want to expose his coming death.

This is a terrible news for anyone cherrishing Japanese art.

I didn't had the opportunity to cross his path...and it is a loss for me.

Usually you can see a man by the way he lived...and die. He died as a fighter on bove feets, waiting for what he had search part of his life.

That's a gentleman !

Rest in peace Sir Jeremiah.
