Dogditcher Posted Tuesday at 09:33 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 09:33 PM Curious what is the item hanging on Tsuba. I didn't pay much attention to them when i was oiling the sword but now as I look at pictures it has me wondering . I do remember thinking that they were heavy for being so small-Owner had it recorded as Officers sword Leather Scabbard -Thanks Quote
Ron M Posted Wednesday at 01:24 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 01:24 AM It look like it’s one of the pieces used for retention of the scabbard to the handle. 1 Quote
Kiipu Posted Wednesday at 02:13 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:13 AM Based upon the bottom half of a snap fastener on the scabbard's leather combat cover, I think the hilt had some sort of leather strap for retaining the scabbard. Two different kinds come to mind, one that was a sort of leather seppa with strap while the second one wrapped around the fuchi. Both kinds then passed passed through the crossguard and snapped onto the scabbard. 1 Quote

Scogg Posted Wednesday at 04:17 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 04:17 AM I think it says: Noshu Kanetoshi Saku Looks like a small braided strap affixed to a brass loop that has three braided strings to three braided orbs. I have also never seen anything like it, and I imagine it will be tricky to identify How strange! -Sam Quote

PNSSHOGUN Posted Wednesday at 10:41 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 10:41 PM This doesn't appear to be a retention cord, perhaps some sort of lucky charm or decoration of similar braided silk. 2 Quote

Kiipu Posted Saturday at 07:05 PM Report Posted Saturday at 07:05 PM The only thing that comes to mind is a post by Stegel back in February 2022. Yellow or Gold Tassels on Gunto, Post #13 2 Quote
Brian Posted yesterday at 07:12 AM Report Posted yesterday at 07:12 AM I would think those hangers are something personal to the previous owner, maybe something for good luck. Don't think they are any more than that 1 Quote
