goo Posted March 23 Report Posted March 23 I bought the connoisseur of the Japanese sword by Kokan Nagayama to try to identify the hamon on my legit blade with the gimei signature. I did a sketch because the blade is out of polish and the hamon is hard to see. I can't find it in the book. My drawing skills are a little rusty but I drew out what I could see. Is anyone willing to take a guess as to school, style or other thoughts? Thanks Quote
Rivkin Posted March 23 Report Posted March 23 I would say choji and notare/midare etc. I am not great at terminology, but: Theoretically most hamon can be called midare, practically one says it to accent the variation in hamon. When the variation is intermittent widening and narrowing its notare. Combination of notare and choji, with distinctive groupings of choji is something one starts to see in Nanbokucho Bizen in particular. This is much later but it throws back to those basic forms. 1 1 Quote
