This is a Kai Gunto my grandfather brought back from WWII. It is singed Kanemoto. Trying to figure out what one. It doesn’t have a stamp just the two-character mei, that is a bit off on the top of the Kane character. The Nagasa is 27.25 inches which seems to be a bit longer than the norm for a Kai Gunto. If anyone has any insight on this it would be greatly appreciated. IMG_4516.thumb.jpeg.e46e0938e3cdb8473671ce5d0cb98fa6.jpegIMG_4520.thumb.jpeg.ccdf58807cf0e24ac02bba1a2b3b5d39.jpegIMG_4493.thumb.jpeg.149c8a2872913ca96880f17453ea20ed.jpegIMG_4493.thumb.jpeg.149c8a2872913ca96880f17453ea20ed.jpeg

Eden, it is most likely Kaneko Magoroko KANEMOTO from Seki.   He was born in 1924 , trained as a smith and earlier signed Kaneko.  In 1944 he became the 27th gen Kanemoto and from then signed  兼元.   The hamon of the blade is the classic sanbonsugi of the Seki/Mino smiths that his line used.   Your sword in Naval mounted kaigunto and he was known to produce for the Navy.

See info and examples in NMB Downloads:     Gifu Swordsmiths and also Naval Swordsmiths Part 2.

Hi mecox.
Thanks very much for the insight. I will definitely look up Kaneko Magoroku Kanemoto and do some comparisons. Where can I find the NMB Downloads?
