Baka Gaijin Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 A Book very much of its time, published in 1964 To-ken GB old timers may know the name of the illustrator "Bon Dale". 1 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 At first there were loud protestations, but gradually one's other half began to feel secure in the house with such a solid guardian presence. Something to frighten off the burglars. Now it is actively encouraged; within reason I hasten to add. 3 Quote
Matsunoki Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 My incredibly tolerant wife has accepted all manner of “stuff” entering our abode over 40+ years but has definitely and consistently drawn the line at Samurai armour which is a great shame because I’d love a suit “to frighten off intruders”…..but she still won’t buy that as a reason. Any tips? 🙂 (I did get away with couple of Kabuto but they’ve found a new home recently) 1 2 Quote
fleetinbeing Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 My compromise was that it was only to be displayed in my office, and not in the rest of the house where it would be "too scary." I think the issue is not that it would frighten intruders, but that it's actually too frightening and bothers the non-collector occupants. Probably to do with the menpo and the empty eyes of the mask. My guess is wives might be much more ok if it was displayed without the helmet in a posture that didn't imply a person was inside it. 1 Quote
Chris Davies Posted Saturday at 02:40 PM Report Posted Saturday at 02:40 PM My girlfriend said “Either the bike and the armour goes or I do!” …. I miss her sometimes….🤔 1 7 Quote
Luc T Posted Saturday at 11:32 PM Report Posted Saturday at 11:32 PM It all started with a kabuto on display in the living room. Now, only the restroom has nothing armor. And my wife, she loves it! 4 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted Sunday at 09:21 AM Report Posted Sunday at 09:21 AM Strangely, when I hung up a Noh mask recently, my wife said that the daughters would be scared of it. "No way!", I replied, laughing. Not long after that, separately, both reacted just as my wife had predicted. "Scary!" they said. Not towards the armor, though! 1 1 1 Quote
dimitri Posted Sunday at 09:57 AM Report Posted Sunday at 09:57 AM Personally, next to my room, the two suits of armor and a mannequin don't bother me, nor do the lady, even my big demon sculpture. On the other hand, a theater mask, No, that's creepy for me, especially this style.😱😱 1 Quote
