Kurikata Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 Hi NMB experts, Is this tsuba Japanese or Chinese ? What are your views ? Thank you. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 Bruno, to me it looks clearly Japanese, but as the SEPPA-DAI does not have a smooth surface, it might be a copy. As a soft metal TSUBA, the blanks are usually cast and then reworked, so it is difficult to say. Motif is SHISHI/lion dog (FOO dog in China) so it is indeed also a famous Chinese motif. 1 Quote
goo Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 The eyes don't look right to me, they don't express anything sinister or emotions. 1 Quote
Matsunoki Posted March 12 Report Posted March 12 Can’t find anything similar on eBay which is a good sign! Usually if fake they crop up multiple times. 1 Quote
Kurikata Posted March 12 Author Report Posted March 12 Thank you, all of you for your comments which give me a little confidence in the fact that this tsuba is indeed Japanese. I do not avoid the fact that it might be a modern copy because of its weight [0,3 kg] and thickness [0,8 cm]. Quote
