Respectfully requesting assistance translating a Mei on a blade in Kai Gunto fittings. An acquaintance of mine inherited a few Kyu Gunto and one Kaigunto, and asked me to help him care for them. Additionally, he requested any additional information about the Kaigunto. After a bit of work, I was able to separate the blade from its fittings, and reveal the Mei. I would greatly appreciate your assistance in translating!

He is “Akikuni” (昭邦), family name Kajimura (梶村), from Yamaguchi  Prefecture (Boshu) .  He was ranked Fourth Seat at the 6th Shinsaku Exhibition, in 1941 and in 1942 list ranked as  jōkō no retsu (4/7).   Also in 1943 list by Nihon Token Tanrenjo and Nihon Token Shinbunshi.

Interesting as a late war sword.  Be good to see the koshirae.

Vincent,

The bolt through the tsuka is unusual.  Looks like the ito (cloth wrap) around it is worn?  Does the wear look old?

My first thought was that it was something added later by a collector (and still could be), until I noticed the worn ito around it.
