Good evening to everyone.

I would like to ask you any information about this amber netsuke please. It looks like a sumo wrestler but I'm doubting it is genuinely Japanese. Though, I will wait for your opinion.

If you may give me an indicative evaluation too, I will appreciate it.

Thanks in advantage to anyone.

Bongio,

please sign all posts with you first name and an initial so we can address you politely. It is a rule here.

The photos are out of focus so nothing can be seen clearly. The material seems indeed atypical for NETSUKE.

From these images it looks like a plastic/resin fake.  The quality is nowhere near Japanese workmanship.

Sorry! I doubt better images will improve its chances.

Just to add, even if it were amber, it is probably "new" amber that is melted down and poured into a mold to make the figure. This is a common technique used with amber jewelry.

Bit late to the party but I’d have to agree with the opinions above. You’d also have to ask about the integrity of any ‘bridge’ between the Himotōshi holes. Amber can be quite brittle.

Amber Netsuke do exist (I have one) but they are comparatively rare.
