Real or fake Gunto?

Hiya there guys, I was just wondering if someone could tell me if this Gunto is fake or real. I know you guys are probably sick of these questions but I honestly don't know any other forum. I cant see the sword in person so all I have are the pictures from the auction. I know the chances are slim that it is real but just curious if itd be worth getting it or not. Also no picture of the tang as the auction house didnt post one. Thanks for any help <3

Hi Daniel, yes it's an original sword. The image of the Kissaki isn't promising from a condition perspective.

Thanks for the reply and info. I also agree the Kissaki isn't in such an ok condition. If you had to guess, how much would this be worth?

That would depend upon the market it is being sold in.  It also depends upon whether that blade is a zoheito (factory blade) or something old.  As a zoheito, with all the corrosion, it would go toward the low end of the market, say $600-900 USD.  If the blade is older, it would be worth more.

Thanks for the info, I'll probably go for it and try and get it, I've been looking for one for a while as its not so common to find one for auction where I am

Remember too, that condition matters when referencing price. That blade and scabbard has a lot of rust on it. That should factor into your decision. You could get lucky and get a well known maker, however it would still need a lot of reconditioning. Personally, I would not go above 400 dollars (385 euros) for one in that condition with unknown smith.
