John C Posted February 28 Report Posted February 28 Found this on an auction for a tsuka and cut blade. I thought the cross-section showing the thickness of the outer layer and solid core was interesting. No marks on the nakago that I could see other than assembly numbers. https://www.ebay.com/itm/267171210581? John C. 1 Quote
Scogg Posted February 28 Report Posted February 28 Hi John, I am not so sure that is an outer layer. To me, it looks like when the blade was cut it then had the edges/corners filed slightly. Presumably to make the area less sharp. Hard to tell for certain though. Cheers, -Sam 1 1 Quote
John C Posted February 28 Author Report Posted February 28 I thought so too, however the different color made me think separate steel. As usual, I'm probably wrong. John C. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 28 Report Posted February 28 Believe the metal has to be etched to show the differences in steel and tempering. Quote
