M Ubertini Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 Hey all, i picked up this Yagyu tsuba with hakogaki from Sato Kanzan. I’m trying to understand the design. Any thoughts? Quote
Matsunoki Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 Pure guess…..crashing waves. Beautiful iron texture imo. Quote
MauroP Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 What's written on the outside of the kiribaki? Quote
MauroP Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 It should be 橋工人字透鐔, but I'm unable to grab the meaning... Quote
Ray Singer Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 I believe the outer hakogaki may be expressing that the design motif is of the kanji for man on a bridge. Best regards, Ray 1 1 Quote
Winchester Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 In my never-ending pursuit of tsuba...I believe I came across this a while ago and it was described as a wave, cloud and bridge. I don't recall if it was in a book or on a website. I recalled at the time--and it stood out to me--that the design was very minimalist for what it was purported to be conveying. Just my $0.02 from memory......... 1 Quote
M Ubertini Posted February 23 Author Report Posted February 23 Well. The hakogaki for one. Then the forging second. Then the design. Quote
