Ronald Aguirre Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 Hey all! I have the chance to buy this katana. The seller says it is signed “Bizen No Kuni Norimitsu Kuni Nagayoshi”. Just checking to make sure that is accurate and thoughts of gimei or real signature? Also any thoughts on the age. Any information is helpful! Thanks! Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 Your readings so far are correct, but I can't figure that out, unless the second Mei is for a cutting test or something? (There seems to be another kanji too, 国? top left.) Quote
Ronald Aguirre Posted February 22 Author Report Posted February 22 Thank you Piers! Any thoughts on the age of the sword or if gimei or authentic signature? Quote
Alex A Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 Assume its gimei. Though i would be kind of tempted to buy it if the price is right, it will need polish which is expensive. Also, you need to be wary of possible flaws hiding in the old polish, like Hagire (cracks) Its tired, as in not much left on at the hamachi which is a concern but difficult to see from your images. You would be wise to talk with a polisher about this before hand. May well be Nanbokucho. O suriage and maybe Bizen. Appears Koto. We really need dimensions and better images, including boshi. Hope that helps, though thats just one opinion. Quote
Tohagi Posted February 24 Report Posted February 24 I agree with Alex, Shape is good and fit with koto or Sue koto bizen. The chizeling is not very deep and you should expect one line meï cut by the suriage... seems done later. Nice sword! Congratulations... Kind regards, Eric Quote
Jacques Posted February 24 Report Posted February 24 Lack of machi says that sword is almost "dead", let it aside 1 Quote
Robert S Posted February 24 Report Posted February 24 Definitely needs a polish, but I don't think it's that "dead", at least compared to some I've seen. If you love the blade, I'd say go for it, as long as it isn't too expensive Quote
chi fan wong Posted February 25 Report Posted February 25 in looking at the 4th image down the bohi is just touching the koshinogi. this should cause some concern regarding the state of the boshi. as alex stated, pictures of the boshi is needed indeed. Quote
