Gerry Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 There's a listing for a soshou-mei Shigetsugu made in 1937 at the moment, and it's the first one I've seen with a mostly suguha hamon: https://www.ebay.com/itm/396194115902 Let's see how much it will eventually go for, despite the seller having no idea of the mei and nenki. 1 Quote
Gerry Posted February 15 Author Report Posted February 15 The "tsugu" character looks like little different from the regaulr soshou-mei, and there's also an additional description at the top right of the mei. 1 Quote
Stephen Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 War time polish. Is that two long scratches or some type of hi. Terrible pictures with the white background. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 Too bad for those who wanted to quietly bid on it! 1 1 Quote
KungFooey Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 IMO that downvote is harsh. @Gerry obviously thought he was doing the majority a favor, rather than a minority a disservice. There are no rules on here - as far as I'm aware - to stop members showing any public listing for any reason. Just sayin' Dee 2 2 Quote
Gerry Posted February 16 Author Report Posted February 16 Ah, my apologies...from the numerous comments I've seen on this forum, I've always assumed that pretty much all the serious collectors here abhor "Fleabay", but I guess not. And is there really any chance of quietly bidding on anything on eBay nowadays, ha ha. 1 1 Quote

They do, Gerry - until it's something they want to buy. Then it's 'full stealth mode' and every man for himself. 😉 "All's fair in love, war and swords." 2 1 Quote

Nicholas Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 eBay is terrible. It’s full of dealers selling overpriced low quality to mediocre swords. It’s a trap for the beginner collectors in my opinion. But once in a while a good sword gets listed from a private person. I’m not mad Gerry posted the link to the sword in question. There was already 47 people watching the auction now there’s 60. The sword was never going to sell cheap to begin with. 1 Quote

Sometimes stuff like this shows up as veterans pass away - but they never, ever stay 'secret'. Quote
Stephen Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 Geery NO need to apologize at all. And asked a valid question about suguha. I agree with Miss Dee what you did warrants no downvote!! Like said it would have made its way too the board anyway. We have our share of There We Are Then members. Nick good recovery from agreeing. No anybody wants to talk about the condition of the blade? Rub lines or what. Going to go push up the price for fun...jk 1 1 Quote

Brian Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 People need to know that eBay is fair game, and there is no such thing as "keeping it quiet" so that someone gets a deal. EVERY auction is noticed by thousands. Very little slips under the radar, and everything is fair game to be posted here. It's frustrating for people who want to bid, but deal with it. Nature of the game. 1 Quote

Swords Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 Thanks for the info so was reading about this very interesting I Its not the best blade but I guess the history alone adds value provided the Mei is legit Steve Quote
