Hi everyone, I would like first to thank all for the great source of quality information regarding daisho in general found in this forum. I would really appreciate your opinion on the following daisho: https://www.samuraim...u-hozon-certificate/  As far as  I can see from the certificate it's a real daisho not a dealer assembled side project, do you agree? Do you think price is reasonable? What is your opinion on Naotane as a sword smith? One other thing that bothers me is that it doesn't have a koshirae and the shop is not willing to ship to a 3rd party (i.e. koshirae maker) and I live in Australia. How much do you reckon a koshirae for a daisho like that would cost? Thanks!

Both blades are on one paper, its a real daisho. as far as I'm aware.

Naotane is a well known top notch smith.

Price is up for you to decide, all il say is a Naotane daisho is going to be expensive.

Those blades cant be judged from those images. ideally, you need to see them in hand. I would if that was my price bracket. They mention Kizu, look into it.

Koshirae. a pair like that need high quality koshirae, the skys the limit. If you do buy them, dont cut corners on craftsman and quality fittings. Finding antique tsuba to fit wont be easy,

Maybe, you should just look for a daisho with fittings, if koshirae is a big deal. Though you may have to compromise. Finding a pair of genuine daisho swords with koshirae will be kind of impossible. Though you might come across some very good swords, but not a real match.

Bit of a money pit throwing money into a koshirae, better finding something already done. (thats my point of view)

Despite papers, I would get this statement checked out. A kizu on each blade? I wonder why they haven’t illustrated those up front rather  than  making you go asking further questions?  Always makes me uneasy that sort of approach.

This seller commonly mentions kitae kizu on blades selling less than around $10K US, inviting potential buyers to ask for further details.  I have also wondered why they don't just show these up front.

Could you imagine walking into a Ferrari dealers to look at a car and the dealer taking you straight to a small scuff on the back bumper and saying "look at this".

That's not the way to sell stuff.

Though they have been honest and ask folks to enquire,.

I saw this daisho set a few days ago and thought about posting it here. There are some Naotane fanbois on NMB. He is a well regarded smith from that period and his blades often command eye watering prices. The site in question frequently posts blades have kitae ware and you would be wise to followup as requested. It's like a get out of jail statement in case the blade is rejected.

These 2 blades have been reported here before. The Wakizashi in koshirae for 2.5mil yen gives you an idea of prices.

Kiril, paper or no paper you want to be very careful here. The mei on the katana looks odd, the last three kanji unnecessarily crowded together, and possibly cut with a different chisel (and hand) from the upper part of the mei. Also, $25K is way low for a true Naotane daisho pair of blades, expected retail (based on cruising dealer websites) should be 2-3x. Both swords and papers can be messed with -- we had a recent example here. But I'm no calligraphy expert, so let's see what others think.
