Zantetsuken Posted February 11 Report Posted February 11 Hi everyone, I recently bought my first nihonto, a wakizashi in koshirae. Mumei nagasa: 43cm weight: 380g Sugata looks like kanbun era, right? Also not sure about the school, maybe Mino? Thanks a lot, Simon Quote
oli Posted February 11 Report Posted February 11 Hi, yes looks like early Shinto, maybe Kanei because of the longer Kissaki. Hamon is hard to see on the photos, Hada looks nice. Mino... a lot of smith from Mino moved to different part of the country and established new schools. So hard to say which one. Maybe somebody else with more experience can help. Otherwise i can recommend you some books. bye Oli 1 Quote
Mark S. Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 Shiga-seki? Possibly Kanenobu? Just something to look into. 1 Quote
Zantetsuken Posted February 12 Author Report Posted February 12 Thanks a lot for the input! Shiga-Seki seems to be a branch of mino and there seem to be different generations of Kanenobu. I will research further. Here some additional photos of the hamon 2 Quote
Zantetsuken Posted February 14 Author Report Posted February 14 Some better hamon pics, thanks to Oli’s advices:) blade seems out of polish, but still nice to view. 1 Quote
Lewis B Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 Blade shows some very nice activity. Would be worth looking into getting a fresh polish IMO. 1 Quote
Zantetsuken Posted February 14 Author Report Posted February 14 If it would be financially/ economically not a loosing game, I‘d definitely consider it. As far as I read polishing is about 100$+ per inch, so at least 1700$ (plus shipping, habaki and shirasaya). Quote
