Paul's loss is a great loss for all who were fortunate to know him, and to our field of interest. He was an amazing and modest man, who patiently built a truly incredible collection. We can only hope that some of his treasures are acquired by people who possess Paul's generous spirit of sharing this art.

I had just a few interactions with Paul Davidson, but all were great over the years all at the NBTHK-AB presentations and lectures they had different Japanese sword shows across the USA. I consider myself lucky to have a genuinely nice hardbound book (112 pages) detailing his collection ART OF THE SAMURAI THE PAUL L. DAVIDSON COLLECTION provided by Mike Yamasaki and Darin S. Furukawa, as well as the board of directors of the NBTHK-AB.

Roughly 50% of swords sold. A bit erratic but then I’m no expert! Looking quickly it seemed that swords with koshirae fared a bit better (but more detailed analysis required)

Armour was not popular although Kabuto sold well

Kake very popular

Kinko fittings did ok

Guns sold well

Are those the hammer prices or the realized prices?

Numbers Include buyers premium etc. ie it is what someone actually paid. What the vendor receives however is a whole different ballgame.
