By the Utagawa school, I picked this up online in yet another Japanese bric-a-brac shop!

The colors still appear very vibrant.

Considering it. I'm far from a prude....very far. But really...does this encourage new members/lady collectors and youth to stay here or are we reduced to looking for a cheap thrill?
Not sure exactly what discussion this is supposed to encourage. We already had one high end lady quit the forum over the typical "macho" guy stuff here.
I'm asking that we consider this before we post stuff that really isn't all that constructive.
Unlike the off topic pictures of huge plushy phallus's that I deleted earlier (and which no doubt led to this post), This one IS kinda antique Japanese art related and I'll leave it up as an example of Shunga for now...but really wonder about your browsing habits and motivation that keep you searching for this stuff online.
If you disagree with me, happy to do an anonymous poll and see what the other members think of that?

Far from a prude? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

"but really wonder about your browsing habits and motivation that keep you searching for this stuff online"

You're such a hypocrite.

Yeah Brian sweetheart - you go right ahead and ask the opinions of the self righteous old farts who hang around here. Assholes always hide behind anonymity.

Ah, I see. The members who don't want to see posts headed "Ejaculating adolescent watching two copulating turtles" are self righteous hypocritical old fart assholes.
I see.
Who knew? Personally, I got over online porn and cheap thrills 25 years ago, but hey....we can suggest some free online porn sites if that's your thing?
I can see we are too old, hypocritical and self righteous for you here. Perhaps it's time to check out some of the forums with lesser morals.

Well, it's definitely time to check out some of the forums without Adolf Hitler Junior running them.

See ya 'big man'. 🤣

I cannot get excited about an old woodblock print, one way or the other. I see it, I may grin a bit, and I forget it. In my opinion, not worth an argument. We have naked swords, that is just porn enough, at least for me.

Well, stepping out of anonymity…… and just the opinions of an old fart etc etc

Personally I think porn that veers towards beastiality is pretty damned sick.

Calling someone Adolf Hitler displays a remarkable lack of awareness of the difference between a delusional mass murderer and someone trying to moderate a serious forum in a way that is acceptable to most without causing too much offence. Some will always throws toys outa the pram but hey Ho.

Images of large cushions shaped as phallus are what I think the little schoolgirls are laughing at on their phones when I drive past them on the way to the gym.

Last time l looked in the mirror I wasn’t an arsehole but I have got one and I  try not to talk out of it (yes, failing at times I know)

Just sayin.

Downvote or further insults awaited.

My two cents - While there may be a place for that subject matter, I don't think this is it. Not saying it's necessarily inappropriate - just inappropriate here.

Brian, if I’m honest I’m a bit conflicted on this one as there have been lots of posts about freedom of speech recently and I quite like freedom of speech.

As a compromise, would it be possible to create an an “adults only” section? Maybe with a testudophilia sub-section? Asking for a friend…🤣🤣

While I can appreciate the desire to problem solve and bring the temperature down, this is another "entitlement" and "feelings" issue. We are ALL adults here and I have read no indication of minors being corrupted by the content on this forum. At the end of the day, Brian is the arbiter of what content is permitted on this forum. This forum is not required to grant any level of freedom of speech.

People really need to get their "feelings" in check and stop whining. Someone says hitler or ejaculating and everyone looses their minds. Its ridiculous. That said, it IS important for Brian to maintain a level of decorum if this site is to maintain a reputation of learning and appreciation. Content deemed to be in conflict should just be deleted. There doesnt need to be discussion as it only serves to light the inevitable dumpster fire. We are guests here and all we can do as members is HOPE that content censoring is made equally across the forum and members. We are not "entitled" to anything else.

They're words people, only words.......it's one thing to prevent words from being viewed to maintain an atmosphere, it a WHOLE OTHER THING to actually be offended by them.

"They're words, people, only words..." Needs just a little push back.

Not to get too far off the original topic here, however it's important to remember that many of our laws are based solely on the use of words. The use of one word over another can turn a misdemeanor into a felony. Many phrases, made up of "only words" are illegal because of the effect they can have on folks.

Communication experts used to say "words don't mean, people mean." But this proves out to be ridiculous because we communicate through words; we convey feelings and our intentions through words. Words matter - and by extension images.

I agree, however, words that make up our laws are words for the purpose of construction. Allowing words to alter your mental state is another issue entirely, IMO.

While it is true that we choose our emotions in any given circumstance, and hence our response to input, the law has long recognized that humans are fallible and not everyone has the skill to just "turn it off" and ignore what people are saying to them. As police officers, we were called every name in the book. You learn to just let it go, however for some folks, this isn't possible. Laws were designed - not for the people who can control themselves - but for the ones who can't. This apples to all laws, actually.

Whoever (?) posted this did it for shock value only.  Nothing else. The OP and following commentary shows this.

Real schoolyard stuff.

If it wasn't specifically intended to be devisive then it was quite an error of judgement in terms of 'reading an audience'

This world in all it splendor and horror boils down to two things: Choices and consequences.

I dont believe, nor do I think you are implying that you posses an ability that the average human does not. You said it yourself in your post, "you learn to let it go". This happens through conditioning over time, the more you exercise the choices, the faster you develop the skill. Are there people who are unable to regiulate their emotion.....sure, but the are the exception, not the rule. I wholeheartedly but respectfully disagree in your statement that "laws are for those who can't control themselves" because except in rare cases, control is ALWAYS a choice. Everyday we hear people say, "he/she MADE me so mad" and think nothing of the statement because it's common to hear. But in reality it's a lie, no one MAKES you anything unless its a life or death situation and even THEN it's a choice.

Lastly, I think we can both agree that the spoken word is FAR more impactful than the written one. So, the idea that a written word has the ability alter a mental state is even more incredible. No, the problem is that we as a species have capitulated to the idea that words are harmful, much like the common idea that not knowing where we come from MUST mean there is a higher power at work. Just because an idea is accepted as a common belief does not make it true.

I don't want to take this topic off in a tangent. Suffice it to say that Choice Theory has limitations - it assumes people are rational and can make rational decisions despite emotional context and psychological makeup. Current research suggests there are too many social and individual factors that influence one's choices for everyone to have the same level of control. In other words, not every choice can be made rationally all of the time by all people.
