Sword hanger - repro or original?

What's the verdict guys?

Metal fittings look legit but leather looks too good to be true.

 

As with so many other things, I'm no expert on this area.

I see more red flags than green lights..

 

Im not familiar with the leather hangers, but the chain hanger that I have is brass that’s plated. So no rust on the metal components. It appears some red rust is bubbling up from under the plating on your photos.

 

But maybe it’s just the lighting? Maybe they used other materials? I am not sure. 


@PNSSHOGUN is someone who’s familiar with these, I think. Hopefully he weighs in.

I'm seeing red lights as well. Can't even imagine there be many straps around in this condition albeit wi5h poor quality fittings.

 

I'd pass.

Thanks for taking a look. 😊

I saw the rust but it didn't phase me because my grandpa brought back one of the wide gunto belts and the snail clasp is very corroded, chrome plated steel.

Yep ...thought about it and a repro couldn't really be minty so gave that a miss.

Originals of this fashion do show up, but I must confess that they haven't held much interest so it's a CSI job.

I took a chance on it as the one on my grandpa's bring-home belt has long since fallen apart and was very similar to this one.

That's good to know, thank you! 

If you still have your decayed grandpas hanger, I'd love to see this new one, and that old one side-by-side when you get it.
Maybe you'll be able to spot inconsistencies, or confirm that they're the same.
