rebcannonshooter Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 I saw this on eBay today. The sword appears to be legit, and of good quality. But I've never seen these stamps before, or in this location. The nakago is mumei. Hey Bruce and/or Kiipu do you have anything like this on file? What do you guys think? Thanks Tom M. Quote

rebcannonshooter Posted January 29 Author Report Posted January 29 Thanks John, The "sword grade steel" makes sense. I've seen the letter 'k' inside a star before, but not the 'k' inside a circle inside a star inside another circle! Just wondering if any of the other militaria collectors have seen such a thing. Plus, "normally" aren't these types of stamps on the nakago? The location of this struck me as odd. thanks, Tom Quote
Kiipu Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 Just a quick note, there is one other and it is in Bruce's Stamps of the Japanese Sword document. Will post links later. Edit: Below is the link to the other one. It is coming from a 2015 eBay listing. Arsenal Stamps. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 I got it from Trystan, @BANGBANGSAN on this post: Here is the one posted by him on the thread. Clearly not the same sword, so now we have 2! 1 Quote

Scogg Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 Here ya go. Unfortunately no photo of whole sugata or closeups of nakago Not my photos or listing - just sharing for posterity 2 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 30 Report Posted January 30 Thanks Sam! Interesting mix of patinated, pierced tsuba on what appears to be late war tsuka and saya. Quote

It matches what Trystan said about the stamp and the "Steel for Sword" kanji. That's the mark of 金城鑿岩機株式会社 (Kaneshiro Seizo KK), one of the subcontractors that made Type 30 bayonets. I mentioned it in another post. It's different from the encircled star 'K' mark on this sword. Here is more information about Army sword steel 刀剣鋼(陸軍). http://ohmura-study.net/241.html http://ohmura-study.net/206.html Quote

I had originally thought you were saying that both stamps were of Kaneshiro, but you did not mean that. You simply said they reminded you of the bayonet stamps. Quote
