PNSSHOGUN Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Unfortunately this is a low quality Chinese fake : http://www.jssus.org/nkp/fake_japanese_swords.html 2 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Agreed. I hope you can get your money back my friend. This is a well-known fake. Quote
David Flynn Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 I'm not sure this is actually a fake. I think, this may have been produced in the Chinese occupied territories for local forces. It's definitely not a Japanese produced sword. Quote
Aldrin Posted January 28 Author Report Posted January 28 Thanks @PNSSHOGUN and @Bruce Pennington for the reply and information. The link you provided would be useful for future reference. @David Flynn, if this is something not really fake but one produced in the occupied territories in China (and say I want to get rid of it), is there any value on it? Thanks. Quote
David Flynn Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Only to some Militaria collectors, and only as an oddity. If you were selling it on ebay, I would advertise it as a "Japanese occupied forces sword". And you never know. 1 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Crappy fake. Not even 20 years old. Worthless 2 Quote
Ian B3HR2UH Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 David , what basis do you have for that statement ? Ian Quote
David Flynn Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 I've seen similar swords that were made in China, for domestic use during the war. Hey, it's only a guess. One of the engravings, looks like the Hong Kong flag. Quote
Brian Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 I think there is likely zero chance this is anything more than just a common, and very bad, fake. And even less chance that this is anything made for military use anywhere. The way the markings are done isn't even close to military style. I'd put money on it. Quote
KungFooey Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Sorry Aldrin, They're both probably signed "Uncle Fong got a new engraving chisel for New Year 2024". We've all been taken at some point - it's just part of the ride. Dee 2 2 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 After looking at the other I have on file, I have to say this one is unique. The stuff on the blade is etched/dremmeled in vs the normal method. Most don't have the plum, but I did find one. Most also have metal tsuka but I did find 1 or 2 with actual wrap. Pointing to fakery is all of them and always dated Showa 15, 1940. They are all in the 30000, 40000, and 50000 serial range, and 47127 is repeated constantly. I have 7 of them on file with this number, and one of them is a Type 19! Usually the plum blossom is on the saya. 5 1 Quote
Ian B3HR2UH Posted January 30 Report Posted January 30 Well done Bruce . When you see them all together there can be no doubt about what they are ie clearly NOT made during the war 2 1 Quote
