Emil Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 There's a dojo in Japan that I've visited in the past to experience some Iaido and tameshigiri. I'm going back there next week. I was informed by the staff that we can't do tameshigiri unless I use my own sword this time. They told me that it's a new sword law that prevents them from renting out swords. So no more tameshigiri for tourists I take it? I tried to find more info about this on google but I couldn't find anything. Anyone here with more insights on the topic? Quote
Nobody Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 The latest change of the law was made in June 2024, which was a minor change about guns. There have been occasional changes since the law was issued in 1958, but basic points about blades have not changed. I believe that the shop staffs do not understand the actual Firearm and Sword Possession Control Law in Japan. Actually, the law does not specify such details. However, it is also true that the police regulations on blades are becoming stricter these days. So, I guess that the dojo’s new rules are based on recent police guidance. 1 1 Quote
Brian Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Moriyama san, are the laws in Japan allowing deactivated firearms, or are they completely banned there? Quote
Nobody Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Deactivated firearms are allowed, but they are absurdly expensive. FYI: 無可動実銃 - Google 検索 1 Quote
