1kinko Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 I've just learned that Ford's teacher has died. Ford, ill as he was went to Japan to visit Kushiro Izumi (last year as I recall). The tosogu world is losing the "old" masters. 10 Quote
Jack Zacao Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 Is there anyone you know who is going to be the next Ford? Quote
1kinko Posted January 11 Author Report Posted January 11 Marcus Chambers is as close as anyone I'm aware of in terms of skill, but not in terms of teaching or writing. He is an NMB member and is accepting commissions. It's a tough row to hoe, and Ford made most of his income from western jewelry making. The competition is with antique Japanese tosogu prices and the time required to make new pieces. 5 Quote
Robert S Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 I think that almost the only way to do any of these traditional crafts now in the west is for the love of them, and as a side hustle, at best. Quote
