Hs132 Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Greetings, I was contacted by a local martial arts Black belt today and was shown this katana. He recieved it from his late judo instructor several years ago. At first it appeared abit fresh to me but there is a showa stamp present, I believe. I was granted only a short time period to examine and take pics and I apologize. These are the pics, any assistance greatly appreciated. This is not in military mounts. Best, Bill Bourque Quote
Bruno Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 I can not remember the name of the stamp but I do know it is very looked for by collector. Very nice sword. Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 This is not a Minatogawa Shrine sword instead made in Seki. Noshu Ju Kanezane Saku. It has the kikusui chrysanthemum/ water symbol and must be therefore a kai-gunto naval sword. John Dated Showa ju go nen shi gatsu, April 1940. Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 There seems to be a name , 池田三真, not sure of the last kanji. Might be Ikeda Mitsuzane. It seems to have a Shinto shrine dedication, 七票神社 What's that guys Nanapyo Jinja? Quote
Hs132 Posted January 27, 2010 Author Report Posted January 27, 2010 Hello, thank you for your expertice. Then this would most likely be a machine made blade, possibly oil -quenched? Best, Bill Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Well, it has a Showa stamp. The little pic of the blade showing the hamon makes me curious. I would like to see more of the blade to really say for sure. It is well mounted and when in wartime koshirae would have been a little special by all appearances. John Quote

Nobody Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 As far as I understand; 濃州住兼真作之謹 – Kanezane of Noshu respectfully made this. 昭和十五年四月献 – dedicated in the April of 1940 姫路住池田三省 – Ikeda Sansei/Sansho? (maybe the dedicator ) of Himeji 奉献 七栗神社 – dedication to Nanakuri Shrine (maybe a shrine in Mie-ken) Quote
