William Jennings Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 Can anyone tell me if this tassel is authentic or a modern reproduction? Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 It's a replica from China. The Habaki looks suspect as well. Quote
Tensho Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 Is this yours, or do you plan on purchasing? The seppa also look inaccurate/incomplete(may just be the photo) Quote
William Jennings Posted January 2 Author Report Posted January 2 This was something I plan on purchasing. The seller says it is a star stamped gendaito made by Okimitsu. What do yall think? Quote
William Jennings Posted January 2 Author Report Posted January 2 @PNSSHOGUN teach me. I was obviously concerned about the tassel and the habaki is odd. What else is wrong? Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 2 Report Posted January 2 William and I chatted a little via PM. For the price, I would buy it just for the blade! It's a legit Okimitsu, star-stamped gendaito. A guy could put it in shirasaya and have a great item. But that's just me. Quote
Brian Posted January 2 Report Posted January 2 Amateur polish, looking very gaudy. But in this case, gentle uchiko over time should subdue it a bit. Westerners often think that a hamon should be so prominent that it looks like it was painted on. But the sword appears real. Ignore the tassel and decide if the price is worth it for the sword alone. 2 Quote
Sam Smith Posted January 3 Report Posted January 3 This tassel is produced in modern China, a very familiar style, haha. This tassel is considered to be of good quality among Chinese replicas. If I remember correctly, it is made of real silk. The blade itself is fine, but the HABAKI might be a bit suspicious. Quote
