Thanks for the video, Dee!  They had me at "Samurai Swords" - looking at 13 gunto.  Only 2 waki were likely old blades.

In spite of the inaccuracies, I couldn't stop watching.  Heck, there were 15 swords to drool over for 18 minutes!  What's not to like!

Great channel for those who enjoy old military guns. They profess at the start to know very little, no need to be mean.

"...no need to be mean"?

That's pretty rich, John. 😂 If those guys dared show up on this forum spouting such incredibly inaccurate garbage (a star stamp and a chrysanthemum on water means a blade is "factory made"), they would be flayed alive by the resident cognoscenti.

They stated very clearly they know very little. I don't find anything wrong with the video, and kudos to them for sharing the collection. Nothing wrong with people stating they know nothing, and asking for info or taking a stab at it.
It's the people who know nothing but argue with advice from people who do know, that get flayed. Rightfully so.
Or people who have an opinion on everything except what we actually focus on.

Message received loud and clear Brian.

Guess it's time to say goodbye to this forum. I'm obviously a square peg in a round hole here.

Thank you to all the kind people who tried to help me and appreciated what I brought to the table. The kind PMs were much appreciated.

Wishing everyone a very happy new year!

I certainly didn't read it as a reference to a specific person, more a generalisation around some recent and not so recent forum 'contributions' that are giving the NMB an unwelcoming and, can I say aggressive, vibe. The newbies are certainly getting it in the neck and whilst many of the comments and opinions are often valid, it's the delivery that can be tempered. As has been said many times, unless new members are encouraged, guided and supported in a positive way, the forum will eventually decline as the old guard move on, so to speak.

Perhaps it's the pressures around Christmas so maybe it's a good moment to step back, take a breather and then return with a refreshed mind. I've really enjoyed @KungFooey's enthusiastic posts, comments and recent acquisitions and it would be sad to see her go especially under these circumstances. Hopefully after a little reflection any departure will be temporary.

A no comment thread for people to show their blades would be very welcome. The 'Rai' Kuniyuki tachi is the quality of blade we need to see more of around here.

At least he started with "things I don't collect and know nothing about" so any factual mistakes can be forgiven.

But, they said there were more navy officer swords produced during WWII than army officer swords... Do we have any numbers on this or was it just guesswork?

I hope you don’t leave the forum @KungFooey, I’ve enjoyed your contributions here.

Most are just critical about a hobby that they are passionate about, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Some could work on their bedside-manner, but we’re here for swords and swords are sharp

All the best.

Cheers,

-Sam

@KungFooey

I second Sam's comments.  You have joined a bunch of old farts that can speak without any filters.  Regardless of what we say, we honestly enjoy your company!  Plus, you have to keep in mind how easy it is to misunderstand things said in text.  In person, one has body language, facial expressions, and tones of voice to help read comments the way they are meant.  Conversations online lose all that, and easily get going sideways, when that never would have happened in person.
