Yvan Posted December 26, 2024 Report Posted December 26, 2024 Good evening, I was wondering if any of you could tell me more about the series of volumes that were published by the NTHK, as well as their respective translations into English (Catalogue of Excellent Swords). For some reasons, it seems difficult to find those volumes in the first place, and at an abordable price in the second place. I do remember that Jim Kurrasch (thank you) did provide a table of contents of the first 3 volumes if I am not mistaken. Since then, it seems there is a 4th volume but I do not know if it has been translated. The comments of the juries that evaluated the presented swords are valuable study material, and it should be interesting to have access to them in a wide manner for the benefits of all. I was wondering if any member of this forum can go beyond, and communicate contents (PDF would be great) of the translation for the different volumes or if the NTHK or any sword association even offers those materials for a given price. Thank you very much for your feedback. Yvan Quote
Grey Doffin Posted December 27, 2024 Report Posted December 27, 2024 Hi Yvan, Prior to Mr. Yoshikawa's death, the NTHK published 3 volumes of Yushuto Zuroku, all with translations. After his death and the split of the NTHK into 2 separate organizations, ther NTHK-NPO has published a 4th which has not been translated. You can find all 4 volumes on my website: https://japaneseswor.../item-category/book/ with a search for Yushuto (some volumes are presently out of stock). And, if all translations were to become pirated PDFs, no one would go to the bother to create a translation. Best, Grey 1 Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted January 3 Report Posted January 3 I have the 1st book. Some day I might get the others too but I have not been in a hurry, I have narrow scope of interest and it seems NBTHK high end fits more to it than NTHK high end at least based on this one book. The book also has English index. The format itself seems very similar to NBTHK Jūyō books. The item descriptions are actually pretty short for most items. Quote
