No expert, though once i suspect it was a round tsuba from the Edo with Amida Yasuri added.

Don't think the shape it is now is original, to me it looks like its been messed with.

The nakago ana and rectangle ana not original.

Maybe to pass it off as a Koto tsuba.

Just an opinion.

From the above post-

"Ich auch nicht, Peter. Du warst nett und ich habe es geschätzt! Dan ist ein Unruhestifter"

Google translation-

"Me neither, Peter. You were nice and I appreciated it! Dan is a Troublemaker"

Well Well seems I missed a bit of a dust up, probably for the best I would have added only more stress to Brian because old dad can't keep his mouth shut or fingers off the little funny things when put together make a word which is a concept which hurts people's feeling.

Back to the point in question,  I like that little flat piece of iron I think it's older than some think but I'm far far from being a tsuba expert.

Can't wait for it to be in your hand so we can see a picture of your hand, cuz the picture of your face is way much younger I thought, I pictured a Ma Kettle with a corn cob pipe in your mouth, exaggerating of course you seem to be older soul.

So yes let's all play nice you too Danny boy...almost broke into song there....from a victim of the down vote buy you know who.

Peace love and happiness pip pip cheerio!

I'll have to paint my nails first for you! 😉

PS: i'm not even wearing any make up in that photo (cause this is a serious forum) but I've been told I scrub up real nice.

Hi Alex!

So, it's like "take the word 'cabbage' then remove some letters, add some other letters, mix them all up - and you get 'aardvark'"?

Those are some mighty big changes just to end up with a, frankly, poor copy of a Koto tsuba.

Really appreciate your thoughts, nonetheless!

Thanks!

:offtopic:Hey Brian, sorry to hear you have not been at the top of your game, hope you are feeling better for the next year.

I just had a thought this thread could do with a retitle "Latest acquisition - More downvotes!

And around and around we go on the children's roundabout - never actually getting anywhere but lots of squabbling over who is sitting in front!

:hijacked: PS. Dee - no point posting bad comments in foreign languages, one click away from google translate for all the members to plainly see!  It isn't helping!

My Jules Verne is excellent Dale - Icelandic and runes were part of my childhood education.

You were telling me "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Now try telling Dan that in Telly Tubby or whatever language he understands.

How things work around here.

Oh, Ma Kettle gets it just fine, Stephen.

Apparently, you get a 'get out of jail free card' to be a never-ending pain in the butt if you're a paying Gold Member.

All others had better beware.

I should have gone with Egyptian hieroglyphics or Mayan but drawing the pictures by hand is a pain. :rotfl:

Don't bother - I understand Egyptian hieroglyphs and Mayan as well.

I've banned gold members before. I'm suspended them too. In fact I don't even look who is on what level when I react.
You're not making this any easier for me.  Off topic discussions about the discussion around off topic discussions? Not helpful.

Just lock the discussion then.

I've learned everything I'm likely to about the tsuba anyway.

Hi Dee,

You asked for opinions and you got one from me.

As said, no expert, i don't study them like i do swords but indulge in a purchase from time to time. However have looked at thousands over the years and seen many round tsuba with Amida Yasuri. In other words, seen enough to know an oddball when i see one.

To me. it is actually a poor copy of a Koto tsuba, look how crisp the edges of the ana are compared to an older Koto tsuba, the plate appears quite thick.

As mentioned, the rectangle ana is a Koto feature.

I stand by my observation its an Edo tsuba that has been messed with.

Cheers.

Hi Alex,

I am very sorry if it came across as me being dismissive of your observations. It was not meant that way and I actually agree with what you say. I wouldn't recognize a koto tsuba if it hit me in the head.

I've handled this thread very badly.

No worries Dee.

We are an honest bunch here,

The reason being for me. Don't like to see folks wasting their money on tsuba that will be difficult to sell in the future.

Not preaching, just trying to be helpful.

Cheers.
