Jesta Posted December 22, 2024 Report Posted December 22, 2024 What material is it made of? The gold sheen is not something that I have seen very often… Quote
Geraint Posted December 22, 2024 Report Posted December 22, 2024 Dear Justyn. Yves tells us that it is iron so I think the gold sheen is light reflection. All the best. 1 Quote
Yves55 Posted December 22, 2024 Author Report Posted December 22, 2024 Yes, just 'pure' iron with light reflection... And mimi with the same reflection 2 Quote
Jesta Posted December 22, 2024 Report Posted December 22, 2024 Thanks for the clarification. The golden look was unexpected 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 I have a kinko one with strange wave motif on-lays [nunome]. I like the thick mimi on Yves' and the octagon shape. 3 Quote
OceanoNox Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 Is the mimi uchikaeshi? If so, I am amazed at the skill required to make it look so good. Very nice! Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 Generally one associates this Mon with the Ogasawara Daimyō family. My gripe with the Matsudaira is that being closely related to the Tokugawa, and thus superior to everyone else, they moved in and took over various fiefdoms throughout Japan, using the regional Kamon as their own. Like cuckoos taking over other birds’ nests and eggs. Tell me I am wrong, please! Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 Mmm, good solid tsuba by the way, and as Dale said the octagonal shape is nice. Oh and Joyeux Noel, Yves! Quote
cluckdaddy76 Posted January 2 Report Posted January 2 I believe this one belongs in this post. Large thin katana sized , believe diameter is close to 9 cm. Can see faint signs of a mei, not sure on age/scool. 2 Quote
