RobCarter3 Posted December 16 Report Posted December 16 Just wanted to share this recent acquisition of mine for stamp and date tracking. Kai gunto with sho-stamped blade signed 濃州関住人兼道謹作 Noshu Seki ju nin Kanemichi kin saku. Dated imperial year 2601 (1941). Blade has some chips but is in good original polish and has a nice shape with longer kissaki. Koshirae is high quality and in great shape with large nodule same, four matched pairs of seppa, sharkskin saya, and tassel. As always, your honest observations and impressions are appreciated. 2 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 17 Report Posted December 17 Hi Rob, the Kanji on the Tsuka may relate to the naval officers surname. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted Tuesday at 02:52 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 02:52 AM Nice kaigunto, Rob! I've always liked the 8 seppa set-up, looks good. Kanemichi was quite the prolific tosho. I have 46 of his blades on file, half of them Showa stamped, 10 of them 1941. Quote
mecox Posted Tuesday at 03:37 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 03:37 AM Yes Rob, looks like a nice kaigunto from a solid smith and group. Its just in time to go into Part 2 of my Japanese Naval Swords. Could you send me the nagasa and sori in cm? Have you seen this paper on their group? cheers Mal Quote
RobCarter3 Posted Tuesday at 04:00 AM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 04:00 AM @mecox Nagasa is 65.72 cm and sori is 1.71 cm. I can take or retake any pictures as needed. I have read your excellent article and was about to reference it in reply to @Bruce Pennington's observation about the volume of his output. 1 Quote
