Ed Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 As we know the Florida Token Kai will no longer host their annual show after this year. The good news is that I am hearing rumors of the show continuing through other means. One rumor is that one of the long time collectors may take it over and change the venue to a sword and gun show. My guess is they will anounce something at the show. Quote
Clive Sinclaire Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Ed I heard that Al Bardi is taking it on next year and intends keeping the same venue but will give it more publicity, but then I am in UK and a bit out of touch these days. Regards Clive Sinclaire Quote
Ed Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 Hi Clive, Yes, I wasn't going to mention names, but that is what I heard as well. Though I did hear he was planning to combine antique guns with the sword show. Who knows, guess we will see next year. Regards. Quote
Stephen Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 any news on the show, how it went?, east coast snow a problem? word on someone else picking it up? Pix please if any esp if its the last one. Quote
b.hennick Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 I can confirm that Al Bardi will run a show next year in Tampa at the same hotel at the same time. He intends to expand the show. There will be guns, antiques etc. at the show. There will be advertising and the show will be open to all. Quote
nihonto1001 Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 The show was slow for sure. However, that gave me more time to walk around. I got a chance to see a nice Ichimonji and ubu Nosada along with many other really nice pieces. The buffet was good too:) Jon Quote
Grey Doffin Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Al told me that the only guns allowed at the show will be pre-cartridge era. Matchlocks, black powder, flintlock, etc. will be allowed but nothing that accepts a cartridge. Grey Quote
Jean Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Good old cap & ball, a Whitneyville Walker or a dragoon, pity that peacemakers nor SW American/Russian models allowed Quote
Ed Posted February 17, 2010 Author Report Posted February 17, 2010 Bummer, I wouldn't want to see it turn into a modern gun show, however I would like to see cartridge era guns like Sharps carbines, old Winchesters, Colt pistols, etc.. Quote
Jean Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Quote Henry's The Ancestor of the model 1866? and what about a Le Matt Quote
Stephen Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Jean we better get back to swords LOL Quote
Jean Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 You are right Stephen, if Nihonto is a dear (expansive LoL) Hobby, my expertise was primary in american guns/handguns starting with the Whitneyville Walker till '73 colt/winchester :D :D Quote
Jean Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Sorry, I forgot the Texas Patterson (1836) Quote
Ed Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 Some of those older guns mentioned, like the Le Mat, or your Colt Patterson should be allowed as they are percussion guns and don't use a cartridge. Funny you should mention a Le Mat Jean, I was looking at one a few weeks ago. Guy wants to sell, but it has a lot of pitting and he wants a lot for it. You know it's designer Jean Le Mat resided in New Orleans, and it was designed with the help of General Beauregard of the Confederacy. It was a great gun, nine shots, plus one round of 16 ga. buckshot from the second barrel. Kind of gun you want at the poker table, Quote
Jean Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Ed, Yes, it went back to memory. I have seen only two exemplaries of it and at prohibitive price (not to compare with Nihonto ). In France, There are not enough Nihonto for sale (nor Tosogu/Kodogu BTW) to organize dedicated fair, that is why Nihonto are mixed with guns in what is called "Arms fair". If we take for example the greatest "Arms Fair" in France, 10 slots out of more than a hundred and fifty stands are dedicated to Nihonto, the highest grade for swords is TH, I have never seen Juyo. At most you will see 50/70 blades, one on ten shall be papered and in polish ... People shall try to sell you rusty blades (out of polish wakizashi, tanto) most time without shirasaya or saya (or if any, ruined) for an average price of 400$ - As everywhere, best pieces are in Private collections Quote
Jean Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Quote Kind of gun you want at the poker table, Taking into consideration the weight, the fact that it is more a portable cannon than anything else and to stay American and in the Epoque (Steam Boats on Old man River), why not try an Arkansas toothpick? but this is I'll be pleased to discuss these subjects by mails Quote
lbkmd43 Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 Al told me that beside Japanese antiques hell try to get chinese as well as korean antiquities into the show:L.Kanarek MD Quote
nihonto1001 Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 I would like to see some of the Samurai Armor collectors/dealers there. Are there any sites like this dedicated to armor that we could advertise the show on? I believe there would be much crossover interest. Jon Quote
