Stunning and Brutal Iga Tokkuri by Takashi Tanimoto

Good afternoon NMB, 

 

On offer today is a sublime example of Iga ware by third generation potter Takashi Tanimoto, who's grandfather Kosie was a major figure in the 20th C Iga revival.  

 

His work, however, is much more bold and free-spirited, much like his renowned father, Kei.  This piece is a textbook example, a typical Iga bulbous form is blanketed with a wide range of color and texture.  Iga wares with these effects are harder to find due to the very high loss rate for longer, more intense firings.  A beautifully organic flask that looks like it were ripped straight from the earth. 

 

Measures 12cm high x 11cm wide and is in perfect condition.  This was in the personal collection of the potter and does not come with a box, however his signature is easily verifiable, as is the distinct style (I can assist with providing examples for interested buyers if needed).  It would also make an equally wonderful flower vase, or simply out on display as-is.
