We stand on the shoulders of giants and need ''thought leaders'' to help provide guidance and knowledege to raise the level of education in the field. Quote

Alex A Posted December 12 Report Posted December 12 For me, the only Kantei that matters at the end of the day is the "Kantei" you spend your money on ,as in making sure a sword is what it is stated to be, the rest is just a bit of fun. We all know that attempting this type of "kantei" is impossible without books and the internet for 99.9% that come here and unless you have bought a sword from such a school and done the study before hand. Jeez, even NBTHK need lots of references for shinsa. Here, often surprised as many get very close and a few always get it right. Oh, and Jacques. Even with all your collection of books i have seen you way off the mark in "kantei" here, not even in the correct era. So don't talk down to people, you are not the all seeing eye, no one is. 2 Quote

Without such firebrands as Jacques, we could quickly revert to a forum extolling the virtues of mumei suriage shinto wakizashi and Chinese fakes..... Well stated. I always read variety of new outlets, even ones I disagree with, for this very reason. But I do agree a change in approach and style would be better received and more beneficial Quote
CSM101 Posted Thursday at 06:31 AM Report Posted Thursday at 06:31 AM What do you get, when you make a kantei from the NBTHK? An oshigata, the measurements and a blade description. Here you get some measurements, the blade is famous and a picture from a book page. This kantei was useless right from the start. I made some kantei in the past. Kantei by photo. A different way and somehow it worked out because I wanted people to learn something. I can´t see anything like that here. 1 Quote

You can say whatever you like, as long as you don't provide a clear, substantiated demonstration, it will only be your opinion, and Madame Michu's will be just as valid. You're the Madame Michu here. And you're the one who wanted to prove something, I just said your way was irrelevant, and you failed, I wasn't convinced. It's up to you to present a "proof" with a valid protocol. 13 hours ago, PNSSHOGUN said: His manner may be unpleasant, but who else triggers this much interesting discussion? Oh he can live his life around, but I will not let him say such big B***S*** just because he is too unpleasant, I will not block him as I'm not the kind of guy that can't stand to watch those people in the eye, and I will not always refrain to speak to him the same way he's speaking to others. Off course Kantei is great! You may see it as a paradox but I wish more posts like these, but not "kantei" as trap with the aim to satisfy the poster's ego. That's sad he is the only one posting that from a long time. And many refrain to anwser because of his behaviour. You see what you have but you don't see what you don't have. How many young collectors / apprentices with great potential didn't even tried because of his toxic attitude? I disagree with the state that Nihonto field should be "hard" at the point that we should tolerate people being harsh between them. And it's a brake to its evolution in the future. The worse is that some time Jacques is brillant, and some time he post total BS, his average reliability is not so good as he almost never reference his notice Quote
Jacques D. I'll skip the rest of your speech, it's a string of words with no real content. Quote
