Suci Posted November 30, 2024 Report Posted November 30, 2024 Hello everyone I know to avoid nco and officer shin gunto with serial numbers on their habaki, but I recall seeing something somewhere that authentic Japanese earlier machine made bladed "parade" kai / kuy gunto had these - anyone know for a fact if this is so or not please? Thank you Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted November 30, 2024 Report Posted November 30, 2024 Not as a general rule. I cannot recall seeing something like that, but I don't study the Type 8/19s, nor the kyu in-depth. Maybe one of the other guys that studies them can say with more experienced background. Quote

There were some type 8 kyu-gunto riding swords and artillery swords that had serial numbers and other stamps on the ricasso. There were also general grade swords that had the rising sun on the habaki. Maybe someone else can find a more specific example. John C. 1 Quote
