KyleH Posted November 29, 2024 Report Posted November 29, 2024 Hi-still new and learning. I was looking at the below AOI listing and saw that the Boshi is not very clear on one side, but is fine on the other. Is that a big issue? I know its a problem if its not visible at all, but was wondering what kind of an impact that might have since its not clear on one side but ok on the other https://sword-auctio...kubetsu-hozon-token/ I appreciate any insights. Thanks, Kyle Quote
Rivkin Posted November 29, 2024 Report Posted November 29, 2024 Its not in hard nie, hakkikake-ish to almost ichimai in nioi - they are very hard to photograph. Its there on both sides, so its ok. 1 Quote
Jacques D. Posted November 29, 2024 Report Posted November 29, 2024 It is Tokuho and therefore free of redhibitory defects 1 Quote
KyleH Posted November 29, 2024 Author Report Posted November 29, 2024 Ok-thanks both of you for the feedback, that helps. Quote
Lexvdjagt Posted December 3, 2024 Report Posted December 3, 2024 I viewed this sword physically in Tokyo a few days back just before the auction ended. The boshi is visible on one side, and (at least as far as I could see) near to no boshi on the other side. The blade is still stunning with beautiful jigane and a nice Koshirae. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted December 3, 2024 Report Posted December 3, 2024 AOI would not have mentioned it if it was clearly visible. Quote
Lewis B Posted December 3, 2024 Report Posted December 3, 2024 Due to the inconsistency of the shinogi-ji at the kissaki I would assume there has been a significant repair (shortening) leaving a compromised and deminished boshi on one side. I saw this on a blade that was brought to the Japan Art Expo with clear evidence of previous tip repair. Quote
KyleH Posted December 4, 2024 Author Report Posted December 4, 2024 Thanks for the additional insights. I thought the blade looked great in the photos also, but I had too many concerns so I decided not to bid. Looks like someone bought it though, as it’s on hold now. Quote
