Paul,

on the lower photo I think I can read RAI KUNIFUSA (correct reading on your part!), a very famous smith name. The other side does not seem to show a date but KO (or O) SHIMA HA which makes no sense to me.

I have the impression that this is not chiseled by a Japanese smith, and we will probably know when you show the complete blade (well focused photos, dark background, light from the side, always tip-upwards, presented as cut-out as you did above).
