Are there any rumblings at all in Germany about "banning samurai swords"???? My home State of Victoria here in Australia has done so, and England has done so. Anywhere else??? Of course, here now machetes and knives are the go, nary a "samurai" sword to be seen in the news. Nice to see swords written up in German in a good light.

Just for the sake of clarity the UK government did not ban "Samurai Swords" although it was their original intent when publishing their consultation document. I think the combination of lobbying from the many interested parties combined with the fact that to spefically banning the swords of one culture but not others might be regarded as racist, made them re-word the amendment. What they now ban is "any sword with a curved single edged blade longer than 50cm". Needless to say those sites the original ban was aimed at immediately started to offer perfectly legal "straight samurai swords". So another piece of worthwhile legislation! ( if I had a sarcam mark I would put it here!!!!)

Although totally meanigless it did encourage the BBC edged weapons reports which resulted in ebay banning the sale of all edged weapons to and from the UK.

 

Although I have had little recent experience, as the revenue and customs people start to understand the legislation (or learn to read) the importation of antique swords is settling down. This is espcially true if you use a shipping company such as FedEx rather than parcelforce. Most problems seem to arise with private sales via ebay where the accompanying paperwork lacks clarity regarding value and age..

Fortunately not, at present :glee:

But nobody knows........cos usually, "we" Germans are vanguard in banning weapons of all shades. :badgrin:

Neither in France, but legislation is very hard on Firearms, I am going to tell you the absurdity of French Law:

 

Are considered Category 1 (war arms) : all pistols of which characteristics are superior to the reglementary pistol in use in the Army in 1939 - barrel length, number of cartridge in the clip, caliber (meaning for example one shot competition handgun °22 long rifle .....) you must have a special licence to get it ... and good sponsors too ....

 

Category 4 : Defense arms : subject to Detention licence : all citizens above 21 can ask for it. It includes all revolvers °357 magnum, °44 magnum .....

do not want to distract from the original thread so i shall only post once.....its silly over here too jean with firearms too....i have a firearms licence and have amongst others 3 large calibre 30 cal rifles which easily exceed 2500 ftlb in power which would spoil anybodys day if they happen to be on the wrong end so to speak :shock: but i can be charged and inprisoned if i own or one of my air rifles power exceeds 12ftlb without a licence.....most shop bought air rifles can exceed this limit without modification if you test enough pellets through it and chrono it.

If anyone is able to vidcap this to DVD etc, please let me know?

Might not speak German, but can understand a little knowing Afrikaans, and have a fellow Nihonto collector here who is German. I am looking to enlarge my very small Nihonto video library.

Yes - it is a great documentation:

In the first ten minutes you can watch how tamahagane is being created using a tatara.

The next part shows Gassan Sadatoshi creating the blade from tamagahane, performing tuchioki and yakiire.

Then it is polished by master Honami. After some fighting instruction from master Otake of Katori Shinto Ryu and Fumon Tanaka of Hyomon Enshin Ryu and his daughter the final polishing process is shown and finally Gassan Sadatoshi receives his polished blade back...

I uploaded the documentation to 4shared.com. The overall documentation had a size of about 420 MB but 4shared.com only allows a maximum file size of 200 MB. Therefore I had to split it into three parts.
