Hello gents,

I traded recently one of my swords for a splendid Kurihara Akihide katana, which was also introduced recently in the thread high class gunto by its previous owner. The sword was made in February 1945 and comes with the original shingunto koshirae. The mounts are in minty condition and look amazing. Everything works perfectly and is as good as it can be. The katana was recently polished by David Hofhine.

Here are the measurements:

Nagasa: 66,67cm

Motohaba: 3,3cm

Sakihaba: 2,31cm

Motokasane:0,71cm

The blade resides currently in Germany and can be shipped internationally. Payment should be done with bankwire or PayPal. The parcel can be shipped with DHL premium international, Fedex, or UPS.

My asking price is 6300€ obo plus shipping and fees.

A real passion demands sacrifices. I am sure, if the asking price was just below 3k, it would be sold within minutes. The habits of greed and stinginess pollute this hobby way too much nowadays.

Dear John,

I think you are unaware that I sold several blades here in the last few years, so I am very trustworthy. Every transaction worked smoothly on my side, so telling the truth about worsening habits here in this timeframe is nothing but a sad observation. If someone feels offended by my words, so he should ask himself why this is the case.

Kind regards

Stefan

Well if where all discussing.

Personally iv never seen a late war blade mounted in a type 98 gunto koshirae. That might raise eye brows.

Also its abit pricey. Once the currency conversion, taxes and postage thats close to 10k Aussie.

Some peaple who collect ljm swords don't shop in that price bracket

I paid more than 6k€ for this Akihide. My asking price is a steal. When we in Europe buy swords from outside the EU, we have to pay at least 20% taxes for the import. The shingunto koshirae is the best one I ever saw in person. It fits perfectly and was probably custom ordered by the same person, who bought the katana directly from Kurihara Akihide.

The market at the moment, appears to me to be all over the place.  I have several Gendaito I would like to sell, but now wouldn't even get AU 2k.  Before covid, these were 2 1/2-3K. So until the market stabilises,  I'll just hang on.  Gendaito in particular have taken a beating.

Sei La Vie, so is the nature of the beast. You can not predict what the public may or may not want at any given time. Today's market is quite fickle with so many "collectors" (and I use that term lightly) looking only for "cheap". If it is cheap, it doesn't matter if the blades are tired, acid etched, showing shintetsu, etc. These wanna be collectors have no idea what any of these flaws are. They do not care, they do not study.  The swords are cheap, that is all that matters.

Akihide was a 1.5 million¥ smith. He was an excellent smith listed in most major reference books, who made only High to Superior grade Gendaito.

I have one that is around the same price with NBTHK Hozon papers, but it hasn't sold.

My plan these days is not to buy anything I can not live without.

You are right, Ed. It gets more and more unpredictable, what may be sold quickly and which sword will stay for a long time.

Hello Stefan
it's a great sword and in great condition and well worth the price. I would want to buy it, but honestly, would you buy a sword now if the Federal Office for Civil Protection has been advising you for weeks to build a nuclear shelter and stock up on supplies? I have deep pockets but no room for a bunker! Maybe many collectors feel this way?

Hello Chris,

thank you for your message. Honestly I don‘t care about the hysteria of the media. I don’t fear the Russians at all. Our German government is a real threat to our lives, not the popular russophobia we can read everywhere.

Kind regards

Interesting ...

@Sutraken Your sword looks awesome on the pictures and the price is fair IMO. I would buy it if I could afford it. For me, money is a problem in this case.

Dear Stephen,

the previous owner commissioned the current polish. The asking price is completely adequate. In the opinion of a potential buyer each offered item seems to be either a bargain or way overpriced. Anyway I respect your opinion.

All the best
