Omote/Mutsu no kami fujiwara Nobusada - Ura/Echizen ju

Hi guys,

I have two swords from this bladesmith Omote/Mutsu no kami fujiwara Nobusada - Ura/Echizen ju (Shimosaka) (1673-1681) and just want to know if anybody else are familiar with this smith, have some of his works or some additional info on the guy. He's not a very high ranked smith, but the two swords that I have now I have got one of them 17 years before the other, so would be fun to see what else exist. Tokka.biz have sold one of his katanas I remember...

Hope for little feedback on this thread :)

Hi Jorgenson,

Yes, as Matt said I have a very nice long wakizashi by this smith. Wonderful shape, and hamon.

I lost most of the good pics of it in a crash. But I will look for what I have. I would love to see your swords too.

PM me.

Hi Mark,

Good memory of Matt!

Funny, because both of mine are wakizashi's too and one of the actually is also a long wak., both with nice shape as well. One of them is i fine polish but the other one is very "tired" in polish, almost no hamon at all. Both are in koshirae. I also lost a lot of pictures in a crash (you love windows too?), but I will shoot some new in the weekend and post them here. I appreciate the pics you posted, for some reason I like the Nobusada blades.

Hi,I found a pic of Nidai Nobusada (NOB 425),where the sword was made by him and Nidai Tsuguhiro (TSU 182) together. The Mei reads:

(1) Omi no Kami Fujiwara Tsuguhiro

(2) Mutsu no Kami Fujiwara Nobusada

Dated on a lucky day of August 1690

Above the Mei there is a mysterious inscription:Senjuin juichi-dai,meaning 11th generation (may be Shimosaka group, because both are 2nd generation?).Source:REI-magazine January Showa 61.Ludolf

Hi,

about a year ago I bought a Nobusada with NBTHK Hozon papers from a Japanese dealer (on ebay). Nobusada is a not very well known smiths from the Shimosaka Yasutsugu School but I liked the hamon and sugata of the blade. The blade is very strong/healthy and in quite good condition, although it is an old polish.

nagasa: 54,6 cm

Sori: 1,0 cm

Kitae(Jihada): Itame

Hamon: Gunome-Midare

Boshi: Komaru

Kissaki: Chu kissaki

Activity: Nie-deki, Kinsuji, Sunagashi, Utsuri, Chikei

Nakago: Ubu

Nagako length: 14,5 cm

Yasuri-mei: Sujikai/Katte-Sagari

Mei: Omote: MUTSU NO KAMI FUJIWARA NOBUSADA (奥之守藤原宣貞)

Ura: ECHIZEN JU (越前住)

Period: Edo period; Nobusada 1673 – 1688, Enpo (1673-1681)

I have gathered quite some information about the Yasutsugu school - so if you are interested please send me a PM.

I have added some pictures of my blade but I have some more - so if you are intersted just let me know.

Stephan

Hi Stephan,

I have bought a Shimosaka Yasutsugu School wakizashi with NBTHK hozon from the same dealer :-) Very substantial and heavy blade.

Nagasa 43.1cm

Sori 1.1cm

Motohaba 29.4mm

Motokasane 7.0mm

The unokubi zukuri shape makes it look like a naginata-naoshi, but it is an ubu blade.

Attached are some pics.
