Elielson Andreta Posted October 25 Report Posted October 25 Hi, I recently bought this Katana. I'm trying to find out some information. Signature is not very clear, making it difficult to photograph. Thanks. Elielson Quote
ROKUJURO Posted October 25 Report Posted October 25 Andrea, I don't know how long it is now after SURIAGE (shortening), but it was perhaps a TACHI. Max. length of WAKIZASHI is 605 mm from MUNE-MACHI to KISSAKI. Province might be KISHU, but I am not sure. Try photographing the NAKAGO with a dark background and light from the side. Quote

I'll try to get a better picture of Nakago Regards Elielson Quote
xiayang Posted October 25 Report Posted October 25 Could be 肥州菊池住 = Hishū Kikuchi-jū and the rest of the mei was lost to suriage. 4 Quote
Elielson Andreta Posted October 26 Author Report Posted October 26 Jan. Thanks again for your help. Despite SURIAGE, I believe it to be a great Katana. I am right? Elielson Quote

Rivkin Posted October 27 Report Posted October 27 Well, sugata is "classic" so it can be anything but signatures towards the back of nakago tend to be koto. The writing does not have shinto feeling to it, but its more forceful with well defined strokes compared to most earlier signatures... Most likely late Muromachi, for example Higo Harukuni or the likes. Decent koshirae, I like the tsuba, I sort of like the wrapping. Its a decent period piece, I don't think its great, but its fun and enjoyable. Quote
