Well if they made a mistake and have to resubmit that makes sense. I'm waiting on a tsuba and we are looking at two months according to the seller. A long standing dealer BTW.

Well having been through the process last month I was a bit shocked when the dealer said the sword was ready to ship 3 weeks after the export license was requested.

G'day Hamish,

A similar thing happened to me last year, but it wasn't Jauce. I think you just have to be patient some times.

Cheers,

Bryce

Yes. Most likely cause is seller having a drawer with a few dozen torokusho from which he takes one at random when he sells something. Since the export requires actual match between torokusho and the goods, when it comes out they don't, it needs to first get new torokusho and then resubmit.

If it has higher papers there is an additional trouble potential - they can open an inquest to the province which issued the torokusho and ask it to resolve the mismatch... In case if its provincial bunkazai or something, so that the locals clearly state that they have no particular interest in the blade on their end.

I have a similar issue with a sword I'm getting exported to the US. The torokusho information didn't match what was in the system because it was from the 1950s, so I have to wait for the local govt board to convene in Nov, correct the problem, and then wait another 3 weeks for the de-registration to export.

I ordered from Giheiya on 13 August and the sword needs to be sent to the Netherlands, but has not been shipped or received the torokusho, I wonder if it has the same problem with the export papers.

Torokusho are supposed to be kept with the sword at all times. I doubt any dealer is just sending in a random Torokusho for an export permit. They take record keeping very seriously in Japan

Thank you for your input. While living there I purchased quite a few items which had torokusho from different swords - daito with torokusho to tanto, a lot of daito with mismatched nagasa, signed blade which was noted as mumei etc. etc.. Comes out when you submit for export and its not a match.
