lonely panet Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Hi guys, im experaincin long delays in gettting a export permint for a tanto, its been 8 weeks plus and iv just been told it will be another 6 weeks as the discription on the licence didnt match the tanto, so it must be resubmitted to the education board. is this common?? first time using jauce for nihonto and frankly i not impressed anyone got advice? regards Hamish Quote
Toryu2020 Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Well if they made a mistake and have to resubmit that makes sense. I'm waiting on a tsuba and we are looking at two months according to the seller. A long standing dealer BTW. Quote
Okan Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 It takes roughly a month these days. I just received my export permit today, which was applied for exactly 28 days ago. Quote
Lewis B Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Well having been through the process last month I was a bit shocked when the dealer said the sword was ready to ship 3 weeks after the export license was requested. Quote
Bryce Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 G'day Hamish, A similar thing happened to me last year, but it wasn't Jauce. I think you just have to be patient some times. Cheers, Bryce 1 Quote

Most likely cause is seller having a drawer with a few dozen torokusho from which he takes one at random when he sells something. Since the export requires actual match between torokusho and the goods, when it comes out they don't, it needs to first get new torokusho and then resubmit. If it has higher papers there is an additional trouble potential - they can open an inquest to the province which issued the torokusho and ask it to resolve the mismatch... In case if its provincial bunkazai or something, so that the locals clearly state that they have no particular interest in the blade on their end. Quote
Kanenaga Posted October 11 Report Posted October 11 I was unaware that an export permit is required for a tsuba. Quote
Toryu2020 Posted October 11 Report Posted October 11 Kencho sama - A permit is required for art objects of a certain value - this is one time I went over budget a little... 3 Quote

The torokusho information didn't match what was in the system because it was from the 1950s, so I have to wait for the local govt board to convene in Nov, correct the problem, and then wait another 3 weeks for the de-registration to export. ying Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 I ordered from Giheiya on 13 August and the sword needs to be sent to the Netherlands, but has not been shipped or received the torokusho, I wonder if it has the same problem with the export papers. Quote

I doubt any dealer is just sending in a random Torokusho for an export permit. They take record keeping very seriously in Japan Quote

While living there I purchased quite a few items which had torokusho from different swords - daito with torokusho to tanto, a lot of daito with mismatched nagasa, signed blade which was noted as mumei etc. etc.. Comes out when you submit for export and its not a match. 1 Quote

What is the value? I really have a hard time figuring out for what I need one, bought several prehistoric stuff as well as some very cheap Tsuba and a Yari (will make a post about it soon), the yari with 40000yen (around 250€/$) being the most expensive of that, on a flea market. I currently live in Japan so I have some time to figure out how to get this stuff back home Quote
Rivkin Posted November 18 Report Posted November 18 200,000 yen. But everything with torokusho needs permit irrespective of value. Quote
