sc72 Posted October 10, 2024 Author Report Posted October 10, 2024 Some painting from my kakemono collection (only tigers) Interesting to know that until a certain year the Japanese had never seen real tigers and therefore drew them somewhat like cartoons. Some artists purchased stuffed tiger skins or managed to see them abroad in Korea, probably during military campaigns. According to some, live tigers arrived with a circus in the Edo era. Finally, tigers were often portrayed alone or with dragons, each animal having a precise symbolic meaning. Surely someone is more expert than me but I wrote what I knew from books. Quote

Lewis B Posted October 10, 2024 Report Posted October 10, 2024 3rd one is especially good. I like how the artist has integrated the headstock into the composition. Quote
sc72 Posted October 10, 2024 Author Report Posted October 10, 2024 This was to demonstrate how these paintings can also integrate into a modern home decor Quote
