Kurikata Posted October 5 Report Posted October 5 Hi, can you please tell me the theme of this akasaka school tsuba? I can see either butterfly or dragonfly. What are your views? 1 Quote
Gunome Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Hello Maybe a butterfly or dragonfly as you suggested https://varshavskyco...collection/tsu-0353/ What about lotus root ? 1 Quote
Kurikata Posted October 7 Author Report Posted October 7 Thank you Sébastien! A better picture is added... Probably there is a Show in the US, Australia or somewhere else as the NMB forum looks very asleep for the time being. 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Half way between these two? At a stretch I see karigane linked wing tip to wing tip in some spots - but it could also represent a web with holes broken through? I don't think it really matters, I like it even not knowing what it represents 1 Quote
kissakai Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 I have an Akasaka tsuba of unknown design and I have asked loads of people and put it on the NMB As Dale said it's a nice tsuba to be enjoyed 1 1 Quote
FlorianB Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Agreed, one of those abstract motives which were made with the intent to confuse the viewer. Personally I tend to recognize a floral motif. However, there are some Higo Jingo Tsuba with an abstract design called butterfly. One of these here: http://world.seiyudo...m/product/tu-040415/ Maybe there's a connection? Best, Florian 2 1 Quote
Kurikata Posted October 7 Author Report Posted October 7 Thank you all of you. I'll have to be more humble and accept to admit not to ne able to understand everything. Espacially from a so exquisite Japanese culture. 1 Quote
Kunehito Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 I think its leaning towards the Owari tradition. Clearly classical Akasaka style. How about four dragonflies flying outwards? 1 Quote
Kurikata Posted November 4 Author Report Posted November 4 Thank you Tobias. Dragon Flies was one of my hypothesis. But with a lot of imagination.... Quote
