Rivkin Posted October 2 Report Posted October 2 Yes, I had a story just like that with them. It was tax coded as antique (no customs duty) which I confirmed over the phone. People in the actual office refused to release the item unless I pay customs duty. Month later I am getting a bill in the mail for a completely different sum with the notice nothing was paid. I simply threw out the bill. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted October 2 Report Posted October 2 Hamfish, that is a separate bill for the box fumigation check. (Not customs or anything you may have paid to Japan.) Australia normally does not allow wooden products in, and after inspection may choose to destroy or fumigate it if necessary. A quick glance will probably tell them that the box is not a bio threat, but they will want to take their standard 100 dollar fee for whatever process they choose to list. And your box together with bio certificate will then be legal in Oz! 2 Quote
Brian Posted October 2 Report Posted October 2 Yip. Sounds about right. Claim your box is a risk to the entire continent of Australia, look at it and decide it isn't, and then charge you for the look. We've all seen that Border Force show on reality. Doesn't surprise anyone I guess. Sorry you have to deal with this. They print their own money and there's nothing you can do about it. 2 Quote
cluckdaddy76 Posted October 2 Report Posted October 2 I have also had this happen once with a shipment from Japan to the US. It was also DHL and the reason I was given was that the total amount of value for combined items triggered this new fee. I told them that was ridiculous because I did not have this happen with previous shipments of even larger value. They refused to give me my items unless I paid, and I did as at this point an extra $100 was not worth not getting my pieces. I have never had an issue when using EMS. Jason 1 Quote
