one or two nice nakago pix the rest .....not so good. is the saya painted black with visible brush strokes?

I take it your shooting on a deck, and the railing is making shadows on the blade. this blade could be worth its salt if it has no crack or flaws. maybe scan the kissaki with a background to see what you have.

G'day Stephen,

Yes this is on the deck and yep I'm crap at photos.

Regarding scanning the Kissaki...any tricks?I have had poor results with the scanner.

I believe this could be quite an old blade and probably not in this area.

Any tech help with getting better images appreciated.

Oh the saya is matt with visible brush strokes? Why?

Cheers

Moss,

maybe a close up of the saya to tell whats going on wrapped or painted?

if you use a flat bed scanner use a color back ground, in this pix i used a blue folder. a blue or purple cloth works as well. when not coverd the white background of the scanner leaves a dark hue or wash on the scan.

Hello all,

the saya is a standard iron one and has a matt/satin black finish with heavy well defined brush strokes.

In a couple of spots there is the iron showing through and it appears that there is nothing else underneath.

As I am on holiday at present and have promised not to go into work I can't scan it but I will have another crack with the camera,

practise with the nasty beast will perhaps make me snap some better pics.

Thanks for your help so far.

thanks

Moss
