Gerry Posted September 10 Report Posted September 10 This is first time I've seen a spear hidden in katana koshirae. https://www.jauce.com/auction/l1151440130 Quote
ChrisW Posted September 10 Report Posted September 10 Pretty sure this is a fantasy piece made from real components. 1 3 Quote
Ironheart Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 Does this mean that the NBTHK Origami rating is a fake? Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 Hmmm… I seem to recall seeing that a year or two back, but it did not have a Koshiraé at the time. Took photos, but maybe with the camera, as I can't find them in the phone. Grrr... The 'real' blade is hidden within the spear-looking blade, hinged to swing out on a pin which you can see near the tip. Quote

Ironheart Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 Oh, is that what that is in the small corner of the photo. I can't read Japanese and assumed it was one of the differing certificates. Thanks. It is has been awhile since I was on so I am far behind on a lot. ( I have Cancer...AGAIN! its not malignant but sure is a pain in the butt and costly to remove it. I am going to use Cryotherapy because it is the cheapest. ) So all the meds cause me to be confused along with my tendency to become really lazy of late! LOL 1 Quote

It seems to me illogical, why bother with hiding a blade inside of a blade. Sorry to take so long to reply, been having a ton of problems today-brown outs and running errands. It really is hard to see the small image. Even when I get back home I have to use a magnifying glass over some parts to read it. I used to have huge 4 k HD Screens but a lightning strike took out the media room. It went through the roof, thru the 2nd floor media room down to the first floor. Firemen said it missed the gas line by a foot. So it is going to be awhile before my life is back to norm Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted September 12 Report Posted September 12 Sadly Brian, I cannot remember exactly how it worked. During a sword exhibition in April in Kurashiki last year or the year before, a friend said “Do you want to see something unusual?” He laid it on the verandah of a temple building, and I recall taking photos. Did it click-lock at a right angle like a kagiyari? Is this the same one or are there more? Never seen anything like it before or since. It did not look like a practical weapon. Quote
GeorgeLuucas Posted September 12 Report Posted September 12 Ive seen a few of these pop up on eBay over the last few years. I assume: they are oddities, meant to entice collectors into thinking they're bidding on an "ultra RARE and unusual item" maybe worth lots of $$$. When in reality it's just mixed parts pieced together. Just my two cents, I'd love to be proven wrong, if anyone has a historical precedent for such an item! -Sam 1 Quote
