Mikebiker Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 This is the 2nd Tanto in the lot of 5 Japanese swords and knives I just squired. I know very little about them. Any help is greatly appreciated. This one does not appear to be signed. The total length is 16 and 1/8 and tip to shoulder is 12 and 5/16. The Habaki is sliver wrapped copper. Quote
Toryu2020 Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 Lee- Based on the photos I would say mid- to late-1800s for the sword and the fittings. Not much else can be said about the blade since the polish is in such a poor state. You might try close ups of the kissaki and the habaki-moto. Just out of personal interest I'd love to see close-ups of the kurikata and the koiguchi. Hira-zukuri and other older shapes came back into fashion during this time, it is nice to see something that is not a shinogi-zukuri wakisashi... -tom Quote
